Take your kids to Indian Creek Zoo

There are many good reasons why Toledo, Ohio is a wonderful place for families. In addition to excellent schools, great neighborhoods, and numerous employment and business opportunities, Toledo also boasts a variety of attractions that everyone in the family will love.

One of these is Indian Creek Zoo. Located at 2744 Consear Road in Lambertville, Michigan, the zoo is only a few minutes away from Toledo. In addition to housing a diversity of familiar and exotic species, the zoo also offers various activities that will give the family an unforgettable experience.

Animal encounters

Kids and kids-at-heart will delight in the various animals that call the zoo their home. These include:

  • Alligators
  • Alpacas
  • Bisons
  • Macaws
  • Chickens
  • Peacocks
  • Emus
  • Cows
  • Horses and donkeys
  • Giraffes
  • Wallabies and kangaroos
  • Camels
  • Zebrasand zedonks (a cross between a zebra and a donkey)

As you might have noticed, these animals are far less ferocious than the species you willfind in other zoos. Indian Creek Zoo is a petting zoo. Children and adults are given excellent opportunities to interact and get up close and personal with the animals.

For a small fee, visitors can purchase a basket of food which can be fed to the animals. Most of the animals can eat right off the basket. Some of them, though, have to be fed from a distance. In feeding the lemurs, for example, a special contraption consisting of a pole, a rope and a bucket has to be used. The food is placed on the bucket which is then pulled back by the lemurs – a sight that’s sure to bring lots of giggles and laughter all around.

In addition to feeding the animals, kids can go on camel rides and touch and pet most of the animals – even the baby alligators. Some, like the zebras, are off-limits for touching, but you can get near enough to take close-up photos without a zoom lens.
